The story of how love drove a women to her destiny to create Destiny Child.

In 1997, a female group burst on the scene and catapulted into one of the most successful female groups of all time. For years the picture had been painted of how Mathew Knowles helped his golden child daughter, Beyonce; Kelly Rowland, and Destiny’s Child achieve phenomenal success. However, after years of seclusion and silence, the former co-manager, who disclosed evidence to help settle the lawsuit between the Knowles and the estate of Andretta Tillman, finally speaks up and not only sets the record straight, but reveals some very telling accounts of what really went on behind the scenes and in the lives of the main people involved with the group.

In his long-overdue book, Brian K. Moore, tells an unforgettable and heart-wrenching story of one woman’s journey in helping a group of young girls from Houston, Texas achieve fortune and fame. He writes a compelling and detailed exposé of how Tillman secured both the Elektra and Columbia/Sony record deals, as well as created and managed the group, formerly known as Girls Tyme, up to the time of her death.

The Making of a Child of Destiny The Andretta Tillman Story is one of hope, faith, and triumph, and a testament of what can be overcome and achieved when one dares to dream.

If you’re a Beyoncé and/or Destiny’s child fan you’ll likely enjoy getting this behind the scenes look at their origins. Also, this book provided some interesting insight into all of the work and financial investments required up front and oftentimes out of one’s own pocket to pursue a music career.

With all that said, this really wasn’t worth the money. It spent quite a bit of time detailing conversations ie complete dialogue exchanges which I questioned the authenticity being as these conversation happened more than a decade before the book was written, that really added nothing to the overall story. Also,it was strange how the author used the last several pages of the book to talk about how his experience with Mrs. Tillman prepared him for his career success. This seemed rather out of place.

Lastly, I found it suspect that the author made some pretty disturbing accusations against Mr. Knowles, implying sexual assault against Mrs. Tillman while she was very ill. However, at the end of the book backed away from his Mr. Knowles was the devil mantra to say he believed the man’s actions were with good intentions, to help his daughter - Beyoncé.

It came off like he was attempting not to completely burn that bridge because he may still want to walk across it again, which made me question his character.

Again, this wasn’t the best read. It had some interesting points but nothing that couldn’t have been accomplished in an article written for one of the music magazines.

Great book and good to know what really happened!! Really sad story!
This was a great read for both fans of Destiny's Child and upcoming artists. It was a revealing account of what goes on behind the scenes, the struggles and sacrifices to make it in the music industry. I found it to be funny and sometimes sad as I read Andretta Tillman's story as if she were speaking her truth through the pages. A very easy read as well as entertaining.
I'm still speechless. As a fan I knew certain things seemed skwtchy and odd and looking back I had heard of Andretta Tillman but didn't know exactly who she was. Now I know. I definitely recommend this book to others....one thing Ingot this as an online read so I can't see the pictures (
I enjoyed reading the book and actually finding out the "back story" behind the group. Thanks for bringing Andretta to light and allowing her success to shine.
This book is an incredibly written and thorough story of the conversations, events, trials, and tragedy of Andretta Tillman and the behind the scenes struggles that I'm sure the young ladies of "Destiny's Child" were too young to know about. I hope those young ladies as well as many others read this book. It was just so real, with no holding back on what was said and felt in the life events of the artists, parents, and management. It's like you can see it while you're reading it. Someone should make a movie on Andretta Tillman and this story. It was an easy and entertaining, then happy and sad look into her life and others.
